372 youths engaged to monitor social investment progs in Kano

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster and Social Development has trained 372 youths in Kano State recruited to independently monitor the National Social Investment Programmes (NSIP) in the state.

The training which held in Kano on Tuesday brought together the youths who were recruited from all the 44 Local Government of the state by the ministry to monitor how the interventions are being run in their respective areas.

Speaking while opening the training session, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouk said the monitors, who will be spread across the nooks and crannies of the state will ensure that NSIP projects are run .

Represented by the Assitant Director, Information and Communication Technology of the ministry, Dr Aminu Tukur Bello, Sadiya said, “We have 4 main social intervention programmes under ministry which are Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP), National Home-Grown School Feeding Program, NPower and Conditional Cash Transfer.

“These monitors will go out as adhoc staff will monitor and evaluate the program with the intention of improving it based on their observations. We selected independent youths and the training will be continuous,” Bello added.

He said the training is presently taking place in all states of the country and urged the participants to work with zeal in making sure that the programmes succeed.

Similarly, the Focal Person for NSIP programmes in Kano state, Baba Aminu Zubairu said the monitors are expected to independently observe, monitor and report the happenings of the programmes to the ministry.

He said the programme will last for two years and the monitors will be given a stipend of N30,000 monthly.

Daily Trust reports that the youths are expected to make corrections and recommend ways of improving NSIP programs in all the 484 wards of 44 LGAs of Kano state.
