3,512 Kuje households get vouchers for ‘modified’ school feeding

The National Home-grown School Feeding Programme has taken off at Kuje Primary School in the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT),Abuja.      

It is funded by the federal government but states and the FCT are implementing it.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq, said, “The commencement of the school feeding programme today is based on Mr. President’s directive to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to liaise with State governments to develop strategies on the continuation of the school feeding programme.”

Farouq added the programme is a globally accepted means of supporting children to continue to have access to nutrient rich foods despite disruptions to the traditional channels of school feeding.

“Beginning today in Abuja, this programme will target parents and guardians of children in primary 1 to 3 in public schools participating in the programme.

A total of 3.1 million households are targeted for this intervention.

Lagos and Ogun states are next ports of call before the programme moves to other states of the Federation,” she said.

A total 3,512 households in Kuje Area Council got food rations via Voucher Distribution.

They include 820 in Kuje Central, 388 in Chibiri, 380 in Kwaku, 90 in Kabin Kasa, 830 in Gaube, 80 in Gidan Bawa, 370 in Gudun Karya, 122 in Kujekwa, 132 in Yenche and 300 in Rubochi.
