The Zonal Commander of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Osogbo, Mr Aganran Ganiu Alao has disclosed that the agency secured the conviction of 325 human trafficking offenders between 2003 and 2017.

Speaking with newsmen at the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Osogbo, Osun State Agbanran said the agency investigated 3,447 cases and rescued 11,279 persons from slave labour within the period.

The NAPTIP commander said the Libya returnees recently brought into the country by NAPTIP and other recent cases were not among the 11,279 victims rescued by the agency.

He said the agency would not relent in its responsibility and that NAPTIP would intensify vigorous campaign against human trafficking. He solicited the supports of the media in its ongoing campaign.

Aganran described human trafficking as a dangerous business all over the world and pleaded with the media to join the campaign to end the menace.

He explained that the mandate of the Agency include rescue and rehabilitation of human trafficking victims and arrest as well as prosecution of traffickers.
