No fewer than 32 candidates are vying for the governorship seat with 253 contestants for the 24 seats at the Gombe State House of Assembly in Saturday’s elections.
The state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Umar Ibrahim stated this on Friday while briefing journalists at the commission’s headquarters in Gombe.
He said out of the 32 contestants for the governorship seat, 31 are male with only one female from Accord Party, Aishatu Sulaiman Bikincha.
The REC added that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to the commission offices in the 11 LGAs of the state.
He further said that the sensitive materials which include the ballot papers, results sheet and voters register would be deployed to the Registration Area Centres (RACs) in the evening for onward delivery to the polling units early Saturday morning.
Ibrahim emphasized, “The use of card readers is mandatory for the gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections, therefore zero votes will be recorded for any polling unit that deliberately refused to use the card readers during the elections.”
