300,000 social housing portal launched in Abuja

The Federal Government’s social housing programme targeting to build 300,000 houses across the 36 states and the FCT for low-income earners was launched on Wednesday in Deidei, Abuja.

The event which drew stakeholders from the real sector and politicians witnessed the launching of the project’s information portal where eligible Nigerians can access and get all the information they need for possible subscription.

Launching the website (www.nshp.gov.ng) to the public, the facility developer and Managing Director (MD) of Family Homes Fund, Mr. Femi Adewole, said the site would explain all needed information regarding how to access a house and also give details on allocation and distribution of the facilities to low-income earners who could not own a house of their own.

Mr. Adewole said about 2,000 housing units would be built at the site at the initial stage and would be sold at various costs starting from N2m to be paid in N9,000 monthly installments for 20 years.

He further said the programme was part of the economic sustainability plan of President Muhammadu Buhari, especially during the economic recession by providing employment and also to address the issue of housing deficit among low income earners who were badly affected by the impact of COVID-19.

He explained that, “About 1.8 million direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created, while the economy of the local manufacturing sector would be boosted as 90 per cent of building inputs would be sourced from within Nigeria.”

The MD and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigeria Police Force Property Development and Construction Company (NPFPDCC), Kemi Olomola-Sijuwade, lauded the project which she said would address the issue of housing deficit among the men and officers of the police force; a major partner in the project.
