300 youth killed in Kaduna gang clashes in 8 years, cleric claims

The Chief Imam of Juma’at Mosque at Unguwar Mu’azu community of Kaduna State, Ustaz Nasir Abubakar Salihu, has claimed that a total of 300 youths ‎have been killed as a result of Sara-suka gang clashes in various communities of Kaduna State from 2012 to 2019.

He disclosed this during an emergency meeting organised by the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria with Imams and Ulamas in Kaduna to discuss the rising insecurity challenges within the state.

The scholar said the record in their possession was worrisome, which was why they facilitated the reconciliation with the rival youth gangs in the state few months ago.

He explained that majority of the youths were into drug abuse and still live within in various communities of the state.

The scholar said, among the youths, there was one that claimed he doesn’t feel alright unless he killed a fellow human being because he was addicted to killings like a drug addict.

“This is the kind of predicament facing us in Kaduna State because such killings are rampant.

“We are not talking about people killed as a result of banditry, kidnapping or armed robbery. No, these are youths that were killed in gangs related activities in our communities. ‎

“Presently, we have records of about 300 youths that were killed as a result of youth gangs related clashes in this state alone‎,” he said.

He also said that drugs abuse joints were ‎increasing in communities within the state metropolis.

“We discovered a community where children male and females were hawking drugs on the streets going from house to house, marketing those drugs. These are happening. We need to find a solution to this problem to save our future generations,” he lamented.

He reminded the scholars of the huge responsibility that lies on them to educate parents to take up their responsibilities and training ‎of their children very seriously.
