300 households in Kano community get potable water supply

About 300 households of Yan Dachi community of Warawa Local Government Area, Kano State have started enjoying potable water supply courtesy of a project by Natview Foundation For Technology Innovation (NFT).

The project, Warawa Living Lab Water Project, is aimed at moving communities from traditional water supply systems to an innovative, cost-effective and technologically inclined model that will provide clean water in rural settings at a minimal cost.

Speaking during the launching of the project, the NFT Project Director, Nura Maidoki stated that the project would be an ultimate solution to potable water scarcity in the community where people had to travel over two kilometres to access clean water.

“It is hoped that the project will also help in boosting the girl-child school enrolment within the community,” he said.

In his address, Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said the government was committed to ensuring potable water supply in the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, Ganduje said clean water assists in realising the trends of health indices such as infant morbidity and mortality due to diarrhea or other waterborne and watershed diseases.

The governor stated that the ministry of environment would mobilise members of the community on water storage system modalities to ensure effective utilisation of the project and urged them to make use of the project effectively and ensure its proper maintenance.
