A post-disaster assessment of the site where a gas explosion occurred in Iju-Ishaga in Lagos reveal 30 people were injured and 23 buildings destroyed.
The injured consist of 20 men and 10 women, according to the state emergency management agency (LASEMA).
A joint team of emergency responders comprising Lagos Fire, LASEMA, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), were able to successfully put out the fire.
The LP gas tanker had exploded at Iju Ishaga Eliot while trying enter a gas station.
The 30-ton LPG tanker, operated by Mana Gas Ltd, destroyed several vehicles, an events centre, and a wood market in the area.
The responders discovered that a compromised seal device by the truck driver had led to gradual leakages which then ignited when the tyres burst.
The 23 buildings destroyed comprise two residential buildings, one church building, one events centre and four commercial buildings.
Also, a market consisting of 15 shanty shops was destroyed.
On the vehicles destroyed, 11 cars and one heavy-duty were razed, according to the spokesman of LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor.
