3 scavengers jailed for stealing iron rods

A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court Abuja on Thursday sentenced three scavengers to 10 months in prison each for destroying concrete pillars and stealing the iron rods therein worth N1.5 million.

The judge, Sulyman Ola, ordered the convicts to collectively pay N1.5 million as compensation to the complainant or stay seven months in prison each in lieu of the compensation.

Ola, however, gave the convicts an option of a N100,000 fine each.

The convicts, Musa Mohammed, 28, Abdulrazaq Ahamadu, 18, and Zaradeen Abdullahi, 25, all of Dawaki area in Abuja, were charged with joint act and theft.

The convicts pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency. (NAN)
