Three people were on Monday burnt to ashes in a motor accident along the Opokuma axis of the East/West Road at Koluama/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Daily Trust gathered that three other people, including a police constable, who survived with injuries, were receiving treatment at a hospital.

Residents said the accident occurred at about 5pm.

It was gathered that two cars-a Toyota Camry with registration number LS 529 KY and a Mazda 323 with registration number GBB 532 XA-had a head-on collision which resulted in an explosion and fire.

Witnesses told Daily Trust that the Camry car was loaded with petroleum products which caused the explosion and fire.

The police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the accident, said two men and a woman, who died in the mishap, were burnt beyond recognition.
