3 land grabbers held after shooting 7 persons in Ogun

Operatives of Ogun Police Command have apprehended three suspected land grabbers after shooting seven workers on a site in the state.

The suspects – Rufai Abdulkareem, Tobi Ajayi and Wasiu Oladipupo – were arrested following a distress call by residents of Owolabi Estate in Ota Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

He said the suspects had been terrorising people of Ota and its environs before their arrest on Monday.

Oyeyemi explained that the area commander in Ota received a distress call that some hoodlums numbering about 10 operating on motorcycles had invaded the estate.

He added that the police were told that the land grabbers were armed and that they were shooting at people in the area.

“Consequently, seven amongst the workers sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries.

“Upon the distress call, the Area Commander Ota, ACP Monday Agbonnika, mobilised the Anti-Robbery Squad and moved to the scene.

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums took to their heels, but three amongst them were arrested while others escaped,” he said.

The PPRO added that some items recovered from the suspects were one locally made single barrel pistol, three live cartridges and two expended cartridges.

He said the injured workers were taken to the General Hospital in Ota.
