Three people have died in a crash that occurred along Ilesa-Akure express way on Wednesday evening, the Federal Road Safety Commission in Osun has confirmed.
Sector commander Umar Ibrahim said the crash was the result of a head-on collision.
One person who didn’t die in the accident is hospitalised with severe injuries at Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa.
The dead are in mortuary in the same hospital.
The accident which involved a Toyota Sequoia Jeep and a Peugeot 406 car occurred at Erin Oke junction. Daily Trust gathered that the the driver of the Peugeot car with the registration number, Ondo NND 968AA, overtook a vehicle in front of him, when he didn’t have clear view of the oncoming vehicle.
According to an eyewitness, "The driver of the Peugeot car overtook the vehicle in front of him and faced another vehicle, a Toyota Sequoia Jeep marked Lagos SMK 289 AX, coming from the opposite side. This led to head on collision. All three passengers inside the Peugeot car died on the spot, while the driver of the jeep was seriously injured,"
The FRSC boss corroborated the accounts of eyewitness, saying the accident occurred as a result of "wrongful overtaking and speed limit violation which led to head-on collision".
