The police on Tuesday killed three suspected kidnappers during a gun duel in Kwara State.

The development is coming on the heels of the upsurge in kidnapping and killings around the Kwara South axis in the state.

Last week, an APC woman leader of Koro ward in Ekiti Local Goverment Area, Mrs Olomo Sunday, was killed during a rescue effort of some kidnapped victims by the combined team of the local vigilantes and police.

Her death followed that of another farmer along same axis, Kemi Afolayan, who was allegedly murdered after his abductors had collected parts of the ransom demanded for..

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi on Tuesday, the operation that led to their death started on Monday in collaboration with the local vigilantes.

“During the exchange of fire between the kidnappers and the joint teams of vigilante and police, three of the kidnappers were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.

“Exhibits recovered from them include one cut to size locally made pistol, a locally made gun, four cutlasses, charms and six expended cartridges among others,” he added.
