3 kidnapped as bandits attack another Niger community

A fresh attack by bandits on Katcha community in Katcha LGA of Niger State has led to the abduction of a female and two men in the early morning of Sunday.

It was gathered that the criminals targeted shop owners, especially beer parlour operators, at the outskirts of the town behind the DPO’s official residence.

Daily Trust learnt that the bandits attacked the town around 1am, operated for three hours without hindrance and went away with the three victims.

It was gathered that the bandits shot sporadically during the incident to scare the residents while the policemen could not come to their rescue till the end of the operation.

The bandits were said to have come in their numbers with AK 47, magazine and rocket launcher.

Confirming the incident, Katcha LGA chairman, Alhaji Mohammad Baba Nna, in a telephone interview, said, “The incident happened around 1 am and lasted for three good hours. They went away with three persons who are businessmen in the town and we are yet to hear from them.

“They came with very sophisticated weapons and I am sure that’s why the policemen were afraid of coming to their rescue during the incident.”
