3 jailed for internet fraud in Kwara

A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has sentenced Tunde Olagunju, Hassan Gafar Olarewaju and Ojo Basit Adewale to prison over offences bordering on love scam and cybercrime.

Justice Sikiru Oyinloye found the trio guilty of the offences and accordingly convicted them.

They were arraigned by the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on separate charges for which they all pleaded guilty.

EFCC prosecutors led by Aliyu Adebayo urged the court to convict and sentence the defendants based on their admittance of guilt and the evidence before it.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Oyinloye said the defence had failed to neutralise the allegations brought against the defendants.

Olagunju was sentenced to two years imprisonment with an option of N650,000 fine.

The judge also ordered that the sum of $1,500 which he benefited from the crime as well as the iPhone used to perpetrate it be forfeited to the federal government.

Similarly, Adewale was sentenced to two years imprisonment on two counts with the option of N500,000 and was ordered to forfeit his Toyota Camry car which he acquired with the proceeds of the crime among others.

Also, Olarewaju was sentenced to one-year imprisonment with N300,000 option of fine, and the judge ordered forfeiture of the iPhone XR to the federal government.
