The Edo State Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly gang-raping a 12-year-old girl in Edo State.
The incident happened in Okpella community in Etsako East LGA of the state and the perpetrators allegedly filmed the act and uploaded the video on social media.
The State Commissioner for Police, Umoru Ozigi, disclosed this in Benin City when Mrs. Edesili Anani, the Administrator, Office of Edo State First Lady, visited him at the Command, headquarters.
Earlier, Mrs Anani commended the police for responding promptly and appealed that the little girl gets justice.
She said the minor was allegedly gang-raped by five men on Christmas Eve at Igiafodo Awuyemi, Okpella, Etsako East LGA.
Mrs Anani also visited the victim at the Diasy Ehanire Danjuma Centre, vowing that the perpetrators would face the full wrath of the law.
Anani, who cited the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, noted that Section 4 of the Law defines rape, while Section 5 outlines the punishments.
“The Edo State Government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that these perpetrators are brought to book. Section 4 of the VAP Law defines rape, while Section 5 outlines the punishment. EDO State has zero tolerance for any form of violence, and we are standing firmly with the victim,” she said.
According to her, the video footage on the social media makes it impossible for anyone to cover up the crime, assuring that the law will take its course.
