The organisers of the 5th Edo Heritage Sports Festival and Carnival, yesterday said about 2,800 persons are expected to participate in the forthcoming sporting event slated for November in Edo state.
The Chief Executive Officer, Heritage and Sports Colony International, Omoyemwen Adeyinka-Afolabi, said the event is geared towards building the talents of youths, promoting Nigeria’s rich culture and encouraging girl-child participation in sports.

Addressing journalists in Benin City, Adeyinka-Afolabi said the eight-day event which will take place at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub, will feature entertainment, culture and varieties of sports competition.
She said the Edo heritage sports festival and carnival is in partnership with the Edo State Skills Development Agency (EdoJobs),an intervention agency under the Edo state government.
“Some of the sporting activities during the event are chess, rugby, taekwondo, traditional wrestling and athletics. We want to use sports as a platform to curb social vices and also promote education”.
“The Edo heritage sports festival and carnival was born in 2017, where we had contemporary sporting events, traditional sports, entertainment and core cultural activities.
“This edition is for purely youths. There are some events for teenagers. The aspect of sports is majorly limited to young people but the skill acquisition is open to all,” she said.
