28 artists to exhibit for Moremi

Twenty eight artists will participate at the maiden edition of the ‘Moremi Art Exhibition,’ ‘View from the Masters,’ in honour of the legend.

The exhibition billed for June 9 to 14 at Alexis Galleries, Lagos, will also show in London, Dubai, New York and Lebanon, among others, according to the global ambassador of Queen Moremi Ajasoro Initiative, Princess Ronke Ademiluyi.

Proceeds from the exhibition sales will go to a non-governmental organisation in Ile-Ife and the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).

Some of the artists are, Sam Ovraiti, Bunmi Babatunde, Abraham Uyovbisere, Alex Nwokolo, Reuben Ugbine, Diseye Tantua, and Gerry Nnumbia, who will exhibit paintings and sculptures, to portray Moremi from different perspectives.

Ademiluyi said, “The Moremi story happened 1,700 years ago. She took a step to save her community. She is a sacrificial leader. Books, plays and musicals have been done in her honour. This is the first time artworks will be done in her name. She is a woman worthy to be emulated.”
