No fewer than 250 youths have been trained on fish farming in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna state, organized by the Lagos based Nigeria Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR).
Speaking at the closing ceremony in Kagoro, the Executive Director, NIOMR, Dr Abiodun Sule said the training would improve the local economy and the state’s GDP adding that participants were trained on integrated rice-cum fish farming, fish-feed formulation, production as well as packaging and marketing.
Dr. Sule, who was represented by the Chief Research Officer of the Institute, Ayaobu-Cookey, said training youths and women would sustain the generation and urged the beneficiaries to develop the spirit of entrepreneurship by putting into practice what they have learned.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Donatus Shemang promised to make use of the training for his self-empowerment and to train others.
Earlier, the member representing Kaura Federal Constituency, Gideon Gwani who sponsored the training said the programme was aimed at promoting agriculture and self-sufficiency among the youths.
