The Borno State Government has appealed to the traditional institution to partner in the implementation of the 25-Year Development Plan and 10 years of strategic initiatives launched on Saturday by Governor Babagana Zulum.

The delegation led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Emirates Affairs, Sugun Mai-Mele met with the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, the Emir of Biu, Alhaji Mustapha Mai Umar, Emir of Gowza, Alhaji Muhammadu Shehu Idrissa, Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ali Ibn Ismaila Mamza ll and Emir of Shani, Alhaji Muhammad Nasir Mailafiya.

The meeting was held at the Palace of the Shehu of Borno, HRH Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi.

Addressing the emirs, Mai-Mele sought for their cooperation in the implementation of Borno’s 25 year Development Plan, particularly on social reorientation.

The commissioner said “the traditional institution is an enduring part of our heritage” as it played a critical role as custodian of reach culture and traditions, adding that “the traditional institutions are also closely linked with the grassroots and understand the problems of the people intimately.”

The Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning, Adamu Alhaji Lawan, appealed for more understanding of the traditional institution in mobilizing the citizens towards implementing the development plan.

The special Adviser to the State Governor on Sustainable Development, Dr Mairo Mandara also spoke on the role girl child and poor enrollment in schools.

Other members of the delegation included the Commissioner of Information, Home Affairs and Culture, Baba Kura Abba Jato, Senior Special Assistant On Media to the Governor, Baba Shiekh Haruna, Director of Emirates Affairs, Ministry for Local Government, Hassan Zanna Boguma, Executive Secretary, Agency for Sustainable Development, Bunu Monguno among other members.

Responding on behalf of the Emirs, the Shehu of Borno, assured to support in mobilizing citizen to key into Governor Zulum’s vision for the overall development of the state and appealed to the state government to review the funding of the  emirate council  for optimal performance.
