25 BUK students trained on Kano-Kaduna rail project

At least 25 students of the Civil Engineering Department of Bayero University, Kano have benefited from an exclusive study tour programme on rail construction at the ongoing Kano-Kaduna rail line project.

The students were engaged and exposed to the various stages of rail engineering and management as one of the leading transportation sub-sector of the economy by China Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC), the firm handling the project.

The Regional Manager, Corporate Affairs of CCECC, Yunusa Hamza told journalists that the students were accorded the opportunity to expand their scope in rail engineering and to expose them to global best practices in the sector.

He said, the company as part of its corporate social responsibility, is providing technical assistance and mentorship to student engineers to acquire practical knowledge in various aspects of the construction industry to enhance the availability of manpower for the sector to complement the theoretical aspect of their studies.

Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Aisha Ummi, said they appreciated the gesture by the firm as it has exposed them to a rare opportunity to learn the practical skills of the railway after being taught in the classroom at the University directly from those involved in one of the major projects going on in the country.
