The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said 2,045 permanent voters’ card were stolen from its office in Okobo local government area, Akwa Ibom state.
INEC National Commissioner in charge of Akwa Ibom, Delta and Cross River states, Dr. Mohammed Lecky said today in Uyo that the police is looking into the issue and will soon apprehend the culprits.
Speaking during a press briefing on the display of the voters register, the INEC Commissioner said the display of the voters register was a success in the state.
He added that the stolen PVCs cannot be used to vote as they are useless to those who stole them, adding that stealing the PVCs was a waste of time as it will only cost INEC money to reproduce them.
He criticized the display of campaign billboards all over the state before the opening of campaigns, warning politicians that the practice is a violation of electoral laws.
Lecky discredited the notion by some politicians that they would rely on federal might to win elections in the state, noting that relying on ‘federal might’ was a mirage.
