The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Muhammad Ali Pate, has said that the federal government has adopted the “Rehabilitation 2030 Agenda” to improve access to rehabilitation services for Nigerians.
He stated this on Thursday in Abuja during a stakeholders’ meeting on the implementation of the World Health Organisation (WHO)-recommended Rehabilitation 2030 Agenda in Nigeria organised by the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria.
He explained that the Rehabilitation 2030 Agenda envisioned that every citizen should be able to meet his or her rehabilitation needs, adding that, “Part of the adoption is the plan to integrate rehabilitation into Universal Health Coverage.”

The minister noted that the “Japa” syndrome in the health sector had assumed an alarming trend in the field of physiotherapy, where Nigerians with relevant qualifications were continuously attracted abroad.
The Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria, Prof Rufai Yusuf Ahmad, said available data suggested that 2.41 billion people in the world could benefit from rehabilitation services.
He said this meant that at least one in every three persons in the world needed rehabilitation at some point during their disease or injury.
