The Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has directed those intending to perform the 2025 Hajj exercise to make a deposit of N8.4 million pending the final announcement by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The board’s chairman, Sheik Ibrahim Oyarekhua, gave the charge in a chat with journalists in Benin this weekend.
He explained that early deposits were necessary due to Saudi Arabia’s new policy, which required payments to be made two months prior to Arafat day.
Oyarekhua stated that the final Hajj fare was usually announced two to three weeks before the payment period closes, and making a deposit would facilitate completing the payment.

“Things have changed now, by early February payment for Hajj exercise will be stopped because the Saudi Authorities have said two months to Arafat, they will stop issuing visas to intending pilgrims.
“Therefore, payment for Hajj must stop about three months before the exercise to enable them to make all the necessary preparation so that there wouldn’t be an issue of service paid for and not rendered due to late enrollment by pilgrims.
“The board is sensitising Muslim communities about the importance of deposits, even if they can’t pay the full N8.4 million initially.
“Last year, all pilgrims received their visas before departing for Saudi Arabia, thanks to the new policy. Intending pilgrims are urged to deposit any amount into the board’s account to secure their spot.”
