After several postponements, the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League (NNL) season is set to commence today at the refurbished Lafia City Stadium.
The Uyo Township Stadium was earlier selected to host the official opening match before the decision to switch to the Lafia City Stadium where hosts Nasarawa United will battle Zamfara United in the star match of week One.
It will be recalled that Nasarawa United were among the four clubs from the NPFL that were relegated to the lower division at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
The ‘Solid Miners’ as Nasarawa United are called will be playing under a new coach Usman Adams who was recently confirmed as the Technical Adviser after many years as assistant coach.

Meanwhile, Zamfara will start the quest for glory under veteran coach Alhassan Muhammed.
Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of the NNL, Dr Ayo Abdulrahaman, has admonished clubs to not only adhere to the tenets of fair play but also play according to the stipulated NNL rules and regulations.
“While we apologize for the delay in kick-off which was necessitated by situations beyond our control, we must warn all clubs against any professional behaviour that can bring the league to disrepute.
“Our matches will be closely monitored as we will be sending Compliant Officers across all venues. We expect the best and a grand opening game. We are working hard to raise the standard,” he noted.
Meanwhile, only the match at the Lafia City Stadium will take place as all other Week One matches will be played on Saturday, November 18.
