2023: Zoning critical to APC’s survival — Chairmanship aspirant

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and contender for the party’s chairmanship, Mr. Malik Illiasu Abdul, has said zoning of the party’s presidential ticket based on an earlier agreement ahead of the 2023 general elections is critical to the party’s survival.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday in Abuja, the APC chieftain asked leaders of the party to project and build on the significant milestones so far recorded by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

He also pledged to eliminate “money bag politics” if given the mandate at the next national convention to lead the party as chairman.

“Definitely, the party will zone its offices because as you are aware, there is an unwritten rule; not in the constitution. The South does eight years and the North does eight years.

“So, you cannot discard that. If the presidency goes to the South, certainly the party chairmanship comes from the North.

“If President Buhari goes and the party goes, it will be an indictment to the youths of this country, and if we allow that to happen then we have disappointed the country. Nigeria will be stronger and better when Buhari goes,” he said.
