2023: Universities won’t go on strike under me, says Atiku

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said there will be nothing like the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike under him.

Addressing supporters and party leaders in Edo State on Saturday, the former Vice president said his focus will be on unifying the country and tackling the prevailing insecurity in the country if elected into office.

Flanked by other party bigwigs, the PDP standard bearer also mentioned promised revive all ailing industries and implement the compulsory primary and Secondary education which he said the present administration has failed to put on track.

Atiku also noted that under his watch all the children of school age must be in school.

The candidate also promised to liaise with the private sector to revive and link rail lines across the country for easy access and movement across the country day and night.

He called on the people of Edo to stick with the PDP as they had always done, promising that they would reap the price of their loyalty.

Criticising the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku said the ruling party has destroyed the country, “destroyed the economy of this country. They have destroyed your educational opportunities. They have destroyed your job opportunities. APC is not a party to the supported. Therefore, we call on you to continue to be loyal to PDP and PDP will be loyal to you.

“We will send back all our eligible children to school. They must go to school; every child must go to school. If you remember, during the PDP years, we established compulsory primary school education from primary to secondary school and we are tasking Nigerians to educate these children.

“But this government is not keeping to that promise. We promise you; every child must go to school and our universities will not go on strike, we promise you that one by the grace of God.

“Again, we promise to revive the economy of this country. We will make sure that our industries, our factories, resume production in this country. We will make sure that there are enough jobs for our youths who are passing out from the schools. This is what we mean by reviving the economy.”
