2023 Presidency: Jerry Useni urges Nigerians to shun moneybags

Former FCT Minister, Lt.-Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni, has urged Nigerians not to allow money be the determinant factor in the choice of the presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, but to vote wisely for national interest.0

He made the call Friday evening, when he hosted the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, and other party officials at his residence in Abuja.

Useni, a former Military Governor of old Bendel State and Senator who represented Plateau South constituency, lamented that Nigeria debt had peaked at N40trn, thus the need to have the right people in power to remedy the situation.

“I encourage you to do the right thing, get things straight. Choose the right presidential candidate. Don’t do the right thing for material monetary value. My plea is that we must do the right thing.

“Vote wisely, vote for the right people. Vote without sentiments. Our economy is shaking, Nigeria owes N40trn and there is more to be done to salvage this nation.

“The way Adebayo spoke, I have listened to him, he means well for Nigerians, he has convinced me, so I hope he will maintain it. I congratulate you for reviving SDP. Everyone has their time, whatever you do, play your role better.

“Nigeria is a good country, but why are the people quarrelling? Even in my party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), when we talk now, they say we are playing anti-party,” Useni said.

Speaking earlier, the SDP Presidential Candidate said his party has Nigeria and the citizenry at heart.

“Being a stakeholder and a military general, you (Useni) know the differences between peace and ceasefire. It’s Ceasefire Nigeria has gotten but it is yet to get peace, this is what Nigeria will get under my watch as President. Solutions to Nigerian’s problems have been funded but not yet accepted into our politics,” Adebayo said.

“We must have a government in place that will look back to correct the injustices and then put a mark not to have further injustices. If just leaders are made, all the problems Nigeria is facing would be addressed.”

He said that there could not be any development or peace if there were injustice and that those seeking to lead Nigeria in 2023 needed leaders such as Useni, who had sacrificed so much for the country, to guide them in ensuring that the right thing would be done.
