The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has backed the election debates to be organised by Media Trust Group Limited, owners of Daily Trust, Trust TV and Aminiya, ahead of the 2023 polls.
The party, however, urged the company to extend the initiative to states to enable more Nigerians critically assess those seeking to govern them.

The Deputy National Chairman of the party, Air Vice Marshal Ifemaje (Rtd), revealed this when he received a delegation from Media Trust at his office in Abuja yesterday.
Dubbed “Media Trust Nigeria Election Debate 2023”, the media outfit is organising series of debates for governorship and presidential candidates ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Ifemaje said the debate was a noble idea, and that the party was ready to participate in the process so that its candidates could tell Nigerians their plans for the people.
He said, “Media Trust is doing a great job, but you need to do it well, and getting across to the six geopolitical zones will assist you to succeed in what you want to do.
“You should not restrict it to only four parties. That is the way to go, so that people will not say you are partial.”
The Group Executive Director, Business Development of Media Trust, Ahmed Shekarau, said the debate was part of the company’s contribution towards deepening Nigeria’s democracy.
