Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has charged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate in the State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to focus on issue-based campaign.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olisa Ifejika, said it is unbecoming of the deputy Senate President to continue to cast false aspersion on the person of Okowa.
Reacting to issues raised by Omo-Agege at a political rally in Delta, Ifejika said what the people of Delta expects from Omo-Agege was to tell them what he would do for them according to his manifesto and not to continue to distort facts and misinform the people.
According to him, Okowa has performed creditably well and that was why the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar saw him as a shining light to be his running mate in the 2023 elections.
“If you want to be governor It is your right to be governor. Tell Deltans what you want to do for them. That is the way to go. But he has continued to, rather than do that, each time he mount the podium he takes swipe at the governor who incidentally is not on the same ballot with him.
“Omo-Agege has his opponent of the PDP. Sherrif Oborevwori, he is the PDP governorship candidate, Who even where it is wrong to begin to cast aspersions on individuals. What should happen is that you should tell the electorate what you’re going to do for them not laying false claims.”
Okowa also asked the APC governorship candidate to first apologize to the people of Delta over the maze snatching incident at the National Assembly, saying the development caused serious injuries to the image of the state and its people.
“Any time that Omo-Agege mounts the podium, it is an opportunity for him to apologize to the people of the state over the Maze snatching issue, we as a government has already apologized to Nigerians on what happened. But we believe now that he has the opportunity he should apologize to the people for causing damage to their image.”
He described statement credited to the APC candidate that PDP has not done anything for the people of Delta since 1999 as laughable.
“In Bomodi he (Omo-Agege) told them that the PDP administration in Delta since 1999 has not developed Delta, hasn’t done anything for anybody, and that’s why he wants to run for the governorship. Fair enough, but he was quick to remind them that the bridge we call it a Bomadi bridge that links Bomadi town with other communities there was done by the former governor of the state Chief James Ibori. He was a member of the PDP and he remains a member of PDP till today.”
