2023: Imams to grill gov’ship candidates in Kaduna

The Council of Imam’s and Ulama, Kaduna State has disclosed plans to interface with governorship candidates in the state to provide the Muslim ummah the opportunity to understand the focus and vision of each candidate.

The Assistant Secretary General of the council, Imam Musa Tanimu, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday, said the aim of the interaction is to guide its members on the need to elect sincere and trustworthy leaders that will govern the state.

He however clarified that the council has no intention of supporting any candidate adding, “We are organising these interactive sessions for our members to understand the focus and vision of the candidates and therefore, make informed decisions.”

According to him, the council had earlier drawn the attention of politicians and political agitators to refrain from making statements that might bring disunity among the Muslim ummah and the people at large.

“This time, the focus is to inform the public of the council’s intention to have an interactive session with all gubernatorial candidates in the state.

“It will be a clarion call to understand their focus and vision for the date and also an opportunity to seek for clarification as the case may be. As stakeholders, the council will continue to ensure only credible candidates are elected so that the state is governed by a sincere and trustworthy person,” Tanimu said.

He noted that most of their members are Juma’at mosque imams with at least 200 worshippers each.

“So they have easy access to the public and getting positive information out will not be difficult by discussing it in their sermon,” he added.

He called on the candidates to come forward and make their vision known to enable the public to decide stressing, “the council is not taking sides with any candidate but rather, giving opportunity to all.”

He then reminded all political actors and agitators to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful manner free from rancour and devoid of unprecedented statements that may cause a breach of law and order.

He noted that the same interaction will be extended to senatorial and house of assembly candidates in the senatorial zones of the state.
