The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said that he would work for the decentralization of the nation’s police to states and communities.
He said this on Tuesday in Abuja at the ongoing parley organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) as part of activities to meet with all the presidential candidates of the 18 registered political parties contesting in the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku, however, noted that all this cannot be achieved without a constitutional amendment, which he would work towards achieving. The PDP presidential flagbearer arrived at the CAN Headquarters with his vice presidential candidate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, and the PDP national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
Others in the entourage were; Governor of Taraba State, Dairus Ishaku; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo; former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Tom Ikimi; and Chairman Emeritus of Daar Communications Plc, Dr Raymond Dokpesi.
Also are a former governor of Cross River, Liyel Imoke; Senator Philip Aduda, Senator Dino Melaye, Timi Alaibe, Kenneth Imasuagbon, Dele Momodu; former Governor Boni Haruna of Adamawa State, and other party chieftains among others.
Daily Trust reports that the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) and former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi and his Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo are also expected to appear before the Christian leaders.
