A group known as Igbo Reawakening Forum (IRF) has appealed to Nigerians to consider an Igbo man as president of the country.
The group made the appeal shortly after its executive meeting held in Awka, Anambra state capital, at the weekend .
It said it is the turn of South East to produce president of the country and urged other ethnic group to support the move for a better Nigeria.
The chairman Board of Trustees of IRF , Dr. Nkwo Nnabuchi, who spoke to journalists, urged Nigerians to listen and consider the persuasions and arguments of Ndi Igbo that it is their turn to produce the next president of the country.
“The Nigeria civil war ended in 1970, 52 years today. The Igbo man from south east geopolitical zone has not been considered worthy enough to be the president of the country. We the Igbo , we consider it proper, and appropriate that Nigeria needs us, just like we need Nigeria.”
“Our people are found in every part of the country. We have over four millions Igbo in Lagos , more than three millions in Kano and they are scattered everywhere in the country. We are part and parcel of the country. We consider it appropriate and equitable that we should be considered for the presidency of Nigeria.
We believe in one united Nigeria that is anchored on justice, fairness and equity ” he said.
Nnabuchi who was Commissioner for Works in Anambra state, said despite the fact that Igbo were defeated in the war, they still believe in one united Nigeria and live and work towards the unity ,development and progress of the country .
On whether , the group has any party or person in mind, he said what they want is president of Nigerian from Igbo extraction in south East.
“We are talking about Igbo man of south east extraction becoming president of Nigeria with or without party. There are a lot of qualified persons in the zone to occupy the position. The north, South , West and others have had their slots, it is our turn this time ” he said
He also stated that , the Igbo have strong confidence in God for the struggle because only He knew how to give Power to people .
