2023: ‘Give us PYO’, Lagos APC members snub Tinubu, endorse Osinbajo for president

Some members of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, under the auspices of the Osinbajo Global Movement have ignored Bola Tinubu to declare their unwavering support for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to secure the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and emerge the next President of the country come 2023.

The APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, had earlier declared his intention to run for president in 2023.

However, the group which was made up of APC members from the 20 Local Government Councils in the State urged Prof Osinbajo to answer the calls of many Nigerians clamouring for his presidency ahead of the forthcoming election.

The Diaspora convener for the Osinbajo Global Movement, Dayo Akintobi, described the Vice President as a “phenomenal leader” adding that “he should be given the chance to pilot the affairs of the country in 2023”.

“If there is anything that Osinbajo has that makes him a more sellable candidate than most Nigerian leaders, it is his emotional intelligence. He has a deep intellectual capacity. The VP is someone who feels the pains of the masses and knows what to do to drive Nigeria’s economy to the next level if given the opportunity to pilot the affairs of this country.

“The essence of this event is to call on eminent Nigerians to support the Osinbajo presidency come 2023.”

Mr Moses Olanipekun, the Mushin coordinator of the Osinbajo Global Movement, said, “Everybody knows Osinbajo is a committed Vice President, hence if he becomes Nigeria’s President, we’re sure the economy will be stabilised.”

Giving an instance to support his claim, Mr. Olanipekun said, “When Mr President travelled out of the country and handed over to the Vice President, he (Osinbajo) performed excellently. So, a lot of people have been clamouring for him to become president because if he could achieve this feat in a very short timeframe as Acting President, how much more if given chance to become president.”

On his expectation for Osinbajo’s presidency, he opined, “He is not a new man in this job. He knows what the masses are clamouring for in terms of the challenges the country is facing. I know that he will salvage Nigeria from the present challenges if he becomes the president in 2023.”

In her remarks, Mrs Popoola Olanike who spoke on behalf of the market women in Ejigbo, called on all Lagosians and Nigerians at large to join the moving train by “getting their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and vote for Osinbajo come 2023”.

“Osinbajo is a Godfearing man who cares about the womenfolk. He doesn’t want us to suffer. He has empowered a lot of market women which I’m a beneficiary. Also, he has provided succour for many out-of-school children hawking on the street by taking them back to school.

“That’s why I’m here to support him. I’m not a politician but I’m only supporting based on his proven track record,” she said.

A twist of the event was when school children who were passing by trooped into the venue. They could not hide their excitement when they saw the fliers of Osinbajo hung at the entrance and decided to call at the event with a chant: “Give us PYO; we want Osinbajo as president”.

Though the Vice President has not yet declared his intention to join the presidential race, there is an indication that he might be the possible successor of President Muhammadu Buhari come 2023.
