The Nigerian Feminist Forum (NFF) has asked political parties in the country to field women for governorship, senatorial and other positions ahead of the 2023 general polls.
The forum also asked parties to consider women for the position of national chairman to ensure more women participation in political party administration.
Speaking at the NFF conference in Abuja, the Communications Officer for the forum, Mrs Angela Nkwo, said there was need for women to be represented more in government.
“It is time for women to be given the opportunity to prove themselves in positions where others could not. For us to know that truly women are being represented, we are calling on major political parties to nominate women for positions such as governors, national chairman etc,” she said.
She also called on all Nigerian women to participate in the ongoing PVC registration as it is a step to securing a voice in the 2023 election.
The group also demanded respect for women and girls’ economic and social welfare, sexual health and reproductive rights as well as the right to participation in political and decision-making processes.
