Founder and Executive Director of Torchbearers Impact Network (TIN), Ibraheem Abdullateef has called on the Nigerian political parties and governments to strengthen resolutions to allow young people thrive politically.
To this end, he urged them to seed 40% of party and government positions to the youths come 2023.
Ibraheem said this in Jos at the citizens summit on national integration, peace and security organised by Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), North Central Zone.
The theme of the summit was ‘Reopen Conversation, Rebuild Trust.
“The best time to start is now. As 2023 elections approach, political parties and governments at all levels would do good to cede at least 40% of positions to credible young people.
“This would galvanise the young population for national security and prosperity because much remained to be done to walk the talk”, he noted.
According to him, “the summit gives a great platform to reflect on the indices of values, economy and leadership and remind the government, media, political parties and other stakeholders of their roles towards promoting inclusion and youths development for sustainable growth of Nigeria.”
Ibraheem explained that the active involvement of young people in peace building, conflict resolution, politics and leadership will minimise crime across the country and strengthen the national agenda for unity and inclusive growth.
He added that young people are justifying their inclusion in politics and leadership positions with laudable performance after the passage of #NotTooYoungToRun.
He urged the government to jettison the use of years of experience and indigeneship among other discriminatory details as key determinants of job opportunities for young people.
These factors, he noted, are largely responsible for underutilization of human resources and division in the nation.
The Kwara delegation to the zonal event included chairman NIPR Kwara, Dr Saudat AbdulBaki and Kwara NUJ chairman, Mr ‘Lanre Abdullateef among others.
