The President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, on Sunday, said for unity, stability and peaceful co-existence in Nigeria, a Southern Christian must be elected as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Bishop Oke, who is also the President of Sword of the Spirit Ministries and Chancellor of Precious Corner Stone University, Ibadan Oyo State, made this known in an interview with journalists in Ibadan.

He added that the country needed a God-fearing and cerebral leader that could grasp the complexities of governance of Nigeria with over 500 ethnic nationalities.

Explaining the need for a Southern Christian, Bishop Oke who was recently in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for Uyo Miracle Convention organised by Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Ministry International, said Chief Olusegun Obasanjo handed to Umaru Musa Yar’adua, Yar’adua handed to Goodluck Jonathan, so President Muhammadu Buhari should not hand over to a Muslim.

He called on Nigerians to bury their ego and unbridled ambitions to achieve this.

He said, “Without any doubt, if we are interested in the stability of this country, the South should produce the next president, and by the South, I am talking of South East, South West, South South.

“And not only should the South produce the next president, the next president ought to be a Christian; not a Muslim. This is very important….Let’s work for unity, stability and peaceful co-existence. In that wise, the next president come 2023 should be a Southerner and the president should be a Christian.”

Oke, who called on the electorate to vote according to their conscience, added that nobody should allow his or her vote to be bought.
