The Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade, Philip Shaibu, has said the state is ready to reclaim its title from Delta State at the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba, Delta State.

The 21st edition of the biennial sports festival is scheduled to start on November 28 to December 28 in Delta State.

Shaibu who disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust, said the state athletes are ready to make Edo proud during the forthcoming sporting event.

He noted that Edo only “allowed” Delta state, as a junior brother, to take the number position on the medals table at the 20th edition of the sports festival which Edo State hosted early this year.

“Edo is going to Delta State to reclaim their number one position on the medal table which their younger brother, Delta state, came to collect in Edo during the 2020 National Sport Festival”.

“The elder brother only allowed his younger brother to have it. We are going to Asaba to reclaim our position and we are ready”

“Our male and female athletes are training seriously for the event. The other day, I went to the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and I saw that the athletes are ready to go to Delta State and reclaim the number one position,” he boasted.

The Deputy Governor said Edo State has provided all the necessary facilities for the training of the athletes in their determination to make the state proud.

According to him, Delta 2022 NSF is the first task the State Sport Commission would be facing, adding “With what we have put on ground and the preparations, I can see them succeeding and winning.

“So, I am confident and I see us regaining the number one position on the medals table in Asaba,” he assured.

It will be recalled that Delta State won Edo 2020 with a whopping 158 gold, 116 silver and 110 bronze medals, Edo came second with 129 gold, 104 silver and 108 bronze medals while Bayelsa State placed third with 56 gold, 55 silver and 58 bronze medals.
