The battle for top polo honours is raging in the commercial city of Kano as the ongoing 2022 Kano international polo tournaments head to a flourishing finale in the ancient kingdom this week starting from Wednesday, September 22 -25.
Revered as one of the most wanted polo crowns in the continent, the Emir of Kano Cup that has been contested for as the biggest prize of the tournament since inception, pitch arch rivals, Abuja Rubicon and title holders, Kano Lintex in a battle royal’ that would ultimately crown the champions of the 2022 international polo festival.

The opening game of the second stage on Wednesday will be a cracker as Kano Rumbu teams face former champions Kano Titans in the Dangote Cup series. Katsina Max Air are billed to clash with Abuja Alhusna in the second game, while the last game of the opening will be a gusty tussle between Lagos Alchemy and Ibadan Desert warriors in a make or mar clash.
The race for the medium-goal Dangote Cup title will not be an all Kano affairs, as other ambitious teams Lagos, Ibadan, Katsina, Kaduna and Abuja have all lay big claims to title in what promises to one of the most contested Dangote Cup games in history of the vintage international polo fiesta.
Subsidiary cups lined up for grabs in the second and final stage of the exciting polo festival include Usman Dantata Cup, Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Cup, the Governor’s Cup and the glittering Emir of Kano Cup whose final will draw the curtain on the prestigious polo extravaganza.
Kano Polo Club Chairman, Bashir Dantata who has vied for the cup on two occasions, says the contest for the top prize this year promises to be the most competitive and the most exciting in recent years.
