2022 Hajj: NAHCON directs state pilgrimage boards to prepare

The chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Zikrullah Kunle Hassan, has directed state Muslim pilgrims’ welfare boards and agencies to start immediate preparations for Hajj 2022.

This was after the commission met with the executive secretaries of the various pilgrims’ welfare boards, commissions and agencies from across the country.

The decision followed the communication received by the commission from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian authorities in respect of preparation for the 2022 Hajj.

Recall that the Kingdom did not allow foreign pilgrims to visit the holy land during the 2020 and 2021 Hajj due to coronavirus with only 60,000 residents of the kingdom allowed for 2021 Hajj.

Unlike previous Hajj operations where foreign Hajj bodies actively participated in the pre-Hajj preparations process, Hassan said arrangements and preparations for this year’s Hajj may be handled by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

NAHCON also directed state agencies to migrate all pilgrims’ deposits to the Hajj Saving Scheme in Jaiz Bank in order to harmonise and streamline the process of Hajj 2022.
