The House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations on Friday summoned the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Umar Farouq, to appear in person before the committee to defend the 2022 budget proposal of her ministry.
The committee sent back the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Nura Alkali, who was sent by the minister to represent her at the defence, insisting she must appear in person.

Speaking to journalist, Chairman of the Committee, Mukhtar Betara (APC, Borno), said the minister had repeatedly refused to appear before the House to defend the ministry’s budget but will always send a representative.
“Sadiya Farouq, rather than appear before the committee, kept delegating the permanent secretary in the ministry, Nura Alkali, to do this function.
“The Committee is insisting that the minister, who superintends the spending in the ministry, should come forward to account and not the permanent secretary,” he said.
Betara warned if the minister fails to show up, the committee may be forced to take further actions.
