The United Nation International Children Emergency Fund (IMF) Field Office in Kano on Monday handed over its affairs for two hours to a group of 22 children, led by 15-year old Saudat Ahmad Wakil.
The hand over was organised to commemorate the 2021 World Children Day, celebrated every November 20, to provide an opportunity for the participating children to learn about the organisation.
During their stay on the helms of the fund’s Field Office, the children deliberated and shared ideas with UNICEF as to what they consider to be the solutions to the issues that affect them, including those in the Changing Childhoods Study Report.
Speaking during the hand over, the Chief of UNICEF Field Office in Kano, Maulid Warfa, represented by Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Manager, Rafid Aziz, said the takeover will provide the children with the opportunity to participate in the organisation’s effort of promoting their rights and well-being.
Other children also took over offices of staff in Health, Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Child Protection, Social Policy, Communication for Development, Management for Results, and Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships (CAP); including offices in the Operations section among others.
