2021/22 Polo Season Gallops-off in Katsina

The much-anticipated national polo tours for the 2021/2022 season is set to gallop-off with fanfare today in the ancient city of Katsina.

A release issued by the newly elected Captain of Katsina Polo Club, Ibrahim Sarki indicates that the season opening tournament is billed to thrill from today till Saturday, October 9 at the Usman Nagogo Polo Ground.

Sarki confirmed on the phone that the list of participants that reads very much like a Who’s Who, not only of the sport of polo itself but also of the business world and a number of aristocratic families are expected from Kaduna, Zaria, Sokoto, Abuja, Bauchi, Minna, Jos, Yola and Maiduguri, among others.

“Our love and passion for the oldest team sport in the world is second to none and in all my involvements so far, we’ve demonstrated this tenacity, zeal and commitment to the promotion of the game not only in the state, but across the country generally,” he added.

Polo Royals can also confirm that four major prizes are traditionally up for grabs during the polo festival.

The laurels are The Nigerian Cup, Gen. Hassan Katsina Cup, Talba Cup and Commasie Cup.

From the Northwestern corner of the country, the long travelling polo season heads to the far extreme North Eastern kingdom of Adamawa for another epoch festival to be hosted by the Lamido Adamawa, HRH Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Barkindo Musdafa.
