The Senate, on Wednesday, threatened some revenue generating agencies with zero budgetary allocation if they failed to appear before its Joint Committees on Finance and National Planning to defend their positions as contained in the 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, MTEF/FSP.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Solomon Adeola (APC, Lagos West) gave the threat at the opening of a five-day public hearing on 2021-2023 MTEF and FSP documents in Abuja.

“This document was put together by the Executive and we need all the heads of agencies to come and defend what is before us.
“Any head of agency that refuses to appear before the Committee to defend figures it submitted as presented by the President to the Senate, risks a zero allocation in the incoming budgets among other penalties,” the lawmaker said.
He also threatened that any erring agency would face severe sanctions from the Senate.
Among the agencies specifically mentioned by the Senate Joint Committee chairman, whose heads are to appear on Thursday, are; the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), Nigeria Shippers Council, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
Others are: Nigerian Deposite Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS), Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC).
The committee also mandated Controller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Mohammad Babandede, to appear on Thursday alongside Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, on issues relating to contract with CONTEC company over collection of Residence permit fees.
