2019 polls: INEC plans 400,000 PVCs distribution in Enugu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu State has said it was planning to commence the distribution of over 400,000 Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs still under its custody ahead of the general elections.

The State Resident Electoral Commission (REC) Emeka Ononamadu, who made this known during a press conference in his Enugu office on Tuesday, said the aim was to make sure that the owners of the remaining PVCs collected them and participate in the general elections this year.

He said that the distribution of the PVCs which would commence between next Monday and Saturday, would involve INEC officials who will man the 260 wards in the state to make sure that the PVCs would all be collected.

Ononamadu urged the citizens and residents of the state to cooperate with INEC by going to collect their PVCs before the commencement of elections.

He said: “Here in Enugu, we are activating the distribution of PVCs in each of the 260 political wards in the state for a consistent period of six days beginning from 9am to 4pm on a daily basis.

“We are encouraging the citizens and other registrants in Enugu to come out en mass and embrace that gesture of collecting their PVCs because without the PVCs, you are not likely to vote in 2019 general elections.

“We maintain that and we keep faith to that. Collection of PVCs continues until one week before the general elections but we are encouraging people because the number we have received is over 400, 000 in Enugu. And the more they collect it, the better for democracy and the elections in Enugu state.”
