The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has stated that Nigeria will not have a credible election in 2019 until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), politicians, government and all other stakeholders work together.
National Secretary of the Party, Shehu Musa Gabam disclosed this while speaking to journalists at his residence in Tilden Fulani, Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State.
He said that the main actors in conducting elections must discharge of their respective responsibilities for Nigeria to have a credible, free, fair and acceptable elections in 2019
Gabam noted that politicians must play by the rules and not to engage in anything that violates any law and keep in their minds that elections are transitions not a do-or-die affair.
“It is by doing so that all other actors in the political scene will be able to discharge their duties with minimal and negligible mistakes,”he said.
He lamented that, since the advent of democratic rule in the country in 1999, Nigeria is still struggling to organise a credible election.
“We have been struggling with how to conduct and deliver a credible election. As at today, the only credible elections in the country remains the 1993 general elections conducted and delivered by the military,” he added.
