2019: PDP govs, others plot to field Tambuwal as presidential candidate

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is receiving the support of some governors and other stakeholders to emerge as the party’s presidential candidate at the convention currently going on in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Inside sources told our correspondent this afternoon in Port Harcourt, that the convention is schemed and geared towards his emergence as the party’s flag-bearer.

Some delegates from different states who spoke with our correspondent confirmed that they were for Tambuwal and not any other aspirant.

SPONSOR AD

Daily Trust learnt that delegates rooting for Tambuwal were the first to arrive Port Harcourt yesterday, where they secured accommodation and were ready to participate in today’s voting.

One of the delegates from Taraba State said, “We are determined to vote for him because we believe he has all it takes to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He added,” The governor is also attracted to us because he has immunity. At the same time, he is a young man full of energy.”

He however, denied being sponsored to vote for the governor.

But some stakeholders confided in our correspondent that some party leaders were trying to convince Governor Nyesom Wike and others to withdraw their support for Tambuwal.

According to one of them who met with our correspondent at the convention ground where journalists were temporarily disallowed entry, some party stalwarts were pressurising the National Working Committee (NWC) to work for the emergence of a former governor of Kano State, Sen.  Rabiu Musa Kwanwaso while Tambuwal gets automatic ticket to return to Sokoto State government house for a second term.

However, Daily Trust learnt that stakeholders are currently meeting on how best to handle the situation without crisis.
