The National Orientation Agency, NOA has called for the deployment of necessary security apparatus to ensure sustainable peace before, during and after the 2019 general election.
The Director-General of the agency, Dr Garba Abari, who is also the chairman of the National Stakeholders Dialogue Committee for Peace and Violence-free 2019 elections stated this in Abuja on Wednesday at a media parley.
He said it was time Nigerians showed renewed commitment to ensure peace in the country particularly during next year’s polls.
He also stressed the need for decision makers to put the interest of Nigerians at heart. Similarly, he highlighted the objectives of the peace committee for 2019 elections.
“Our goal is to ensure that the pocket of crises around the North East and other parts of the country do not escalate just because of our democratic tradition of choosing our leaders intermittently,” Dr. Abari said.
A member of the Committee and Chairman, Christopher-Mustapha Foundation, Mr. Bongus Ikwue, stressed the need for leaders to find efficient means of addressing the nation’s challenges.
Mr. Ikwue added that religious and political leaders must lead by example for followers to emulate.
