The harmonization committee of the Senate and House of Representatives yesterday adopted the new election sequence for the 2019 elections.
Our correspondent reports that the House of Representatives had last month amended the Electoral Act to change the order of the elections’ time table.
With the amendment, the National Assembly election is to hold first, followed by gubernatorial and state assembly polls. The presidential election would hold last.
The new sequence altered the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) last year, which put Presidential and National Assembly elections first before that of governorship and state assembly elections.
The harmonization committee chaired by Senator Suleiman Nazif (APC, Bauchi) met yesterday where the order of elections passed by the House was adopted.
