Ahead of the 2019 general election, Governor Aminu Masari of the All Progressive Congress, APC, the leading opposition candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Yakubu Lado alongside 18 other governorship candidates have signed a peace accord towards a hitch free election in the state.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 1 Kano, Dan Bature said the police and other security agencies will ensure the election is rancour free, urging all to follow laid down rules and regulation as stipulated in the electoral act.
The state commissioner of police Mohammed Wakili said “we need to come out with a single voice and binding on all of us to ensure peace at the polls.
“This is a good forum for peace at the polls. Katsina should be a pace setter by playing politics with decorum. This is to promote peace irrespective of political difference amongst us,” he said
In his remarks, the Resident Electoral commissioner of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Ibrahim Zarewa expressed joy over the development, saying that “this event is to create awareness on the need to sustained the already existing peaceful atmosphere in the state.”
